Double Slipper Tubs: Where Comfort Meets Luxury
A freestanding bathtub is a great way to create a focal point in your bathroom. And when you select a double slipper tub, you don’t have to compromise on either comfort or luxury. Whether you like the timeless appeal of cast iron bathtubs or prefer something light and modern, like our acrylic tubs, you can find your perfect double slipper tub at Vintage Tub & Bath.
What’s a Double Slipper Tub?
One of the more memorable inventions of the Victorian era was the slipper bathtub. These oval-shaped tubs had rounded ends, one of which rose upward (much like the back of a slipper or a high-heeled shoe). The idea was that a user could comfortably recline against the raised end.
The traditional slipper tub design is also called a “single slipper” tub. It inspired an even more comfortable design: the double slipper bathtub. These tubs are raised at both ends so that you can recline on either side. If the tub is big enough, two people can relax and soak at once.
Choosing Your Double Slipper Bathtub
Interested in a double slipper tub? Here’s a quick look at some of the things to consider when selecting one.
Tub Package
Some tubs have no faucet drillings — you’ll need to add them yourself. However, we offer tub packages that come with faucets.
Material
There are several materials you can choose from:
- Acrylic
- Cast iron
- Copper
- Solid surface
- Stone composite
Generally, a cast iron bathtub (or a copper one) will hold heat longer than an acrylic bathtub, but acrylic tubs are much lighter.
Soaking Depth
If you like to sit upright (or mostly upright) and soak, you might prefer our deeper tubs. They go up to 22 inches deep or more. On the shallower end, you can also choose tubs with soaking depths as low as 10 inches.
Tub Length
Short tubs are great for small spaces. Longer tubs are great if you want to stretch out or soak with another person. Our tubs range in length from 53 inches to more than 73 inches.
Installation Type
Uniquely shaped, double slipper bathtubs are exclusively designed as freestanding models, adding an element of sophistication and distinct style to any bathroom.
Tub Drillings
A deck-mount faucet can simplify tub and faucet installation. Deck-mount faucets are mounted on the rim of the tub, so they’re connected to the actual bathtub. However, if you want another faucet configuration (like a wall mount), you can choose one of our tubs with no faucet holes.
Style
There’s a style of double-slipper tub for every aesthetic:
- Clawfoot: Exuding vintage style, clawfoot bathtubs stand out with their distinctive, claw-shaped feet
- Contemporary: These minimalist tubs have a simplified, sleek version of the double slipper shape
- Double Ended: These tubs look like double slipper tubs but without the dip in the middle
- Double Slipper: These have the classic double slipper shape (raised on both ends)
- Slipper: These have the classic single slipper shape (raised on one end)
If you’re having trouble choosing the right style for your home, please don’t hesitate to ask!
Drain Location
Choosing a drain location is largely a matter of personal preference (and where in your bathroom your existing drain is). We offer tubs with center, rear-center, and end drains.
Finish
While there are many factors to consider when choosing a bathtub, the finish is certainly one of the key elements that can define its look and feel. We offer a range of tub finish options to suit various styles and preferences. Here are some of the most popular:
- Copper
- Matte white
- Matte black
- Gloss white
- Gloss black
- Satin nickel
- Matte green
- Matte blue
- Matte tan
Plus, some of our tubs can also be hand-painted for a unique look.
Drain Finish
It's essential for the aesthetic harmony of your bathroom that your drain complements the rest of your hardware. To ensure a balanced look, we provide a variety of drain finishes to choose from:
- Brushed brass
- Brushed nickel
- Polished chrome
- Gunmetal
- Matte black
- Matte white
- Oil-rubbed bronze
- Polished brass
- Polished nickel
- Rose gold
- White
Drains are designed to be as unobtrusive as possible, so in some cases, you may be able to pair them with differently-finished faucets - especially if you’re going for a mixed-metals look.
Foot Finish
If you're interested in an acrylic double slipper clawfoot tub, they look magnificent no matter what kind of feet it has. However, when you buy from us, you get plenty of choices. Our tub feet can be found in most metallic shades mentioned above.
Feet Type
Not everyone knows that clawfoot tubs can have slightly different styles of feet! We offer tubs with ball and claw, imperial, lion paw, modern, and monarch feet. Of course, some have no feet at all.
Brand
Our double slipper tubs come from several brands:
- Sierra Copper
- Restoria Bathtub
- Maax
- Cheviot
- Aquatica
- A&E Bath & Shower
- Randolph Morris
Many of our tub offerings are by Randolph Morris, as it offers the best value.
Faucet Style
If you choose a deck-mount faucet, you can select from gooseneck, contemporary, and waterfall styles. Much like our kitchen sinks, our faucets come in several finishes.
Price
We have double slipper tubs for every budget. Our tubs range in price from under $1,000 to over $10,000.
