Before proceeding with your custom shower/tub door design and selection it is crucial to ensure accurate sizing for a seamless fit and proper installation. It’s essential to take measurements after your tile or other wall finishes have been installed. Verify that your walls are perfectly straight (plumb), and that your shower base, shower floor, or tub is impeccably level. To obtain precise measurements, consult our “Finished Wall Dimensions” page for step-by-step guidelines. What is a wall profile, and how is it adjustable?
A wall profile is a specialized metal channel designed to securely accommodate the stationary panel of your shower door. After the glass profile is affixed to this channel, you can easily slide the stationary panel to the desired depth. This sliding mechanism within the depth of the wall profile offers the flexibility to adjust both in width and out-of-plumb walls, ensuring a perfect fit for your shower space.
What is a U-Channel profile?
The U-Channel is a sleek metal channel, measuring 1" in width, designed to securely hold the stationary panel of your shower door. It not only allows for a ½” adjustment for width and out-of-plumb, but also offers a more frameless look to your shower space.

How do I know if my wall is out of plumb?
To assess if your wall is out of plumb, we suggest using a 4-foot bubble level against your finished wall. If the bubble doesn't center between the two lines, it indicates that the wall might be out of plumb.
What size shower base do I need for my shower enclosure?
When selecting a shower base for our enclosures, always opt for a base that's 2 inches larger than the shower enclosure dimensions. For instance, if you're considering a 34 x 34 inch shower enclosure, you should pair it with a 36 x 36 inch shower base.

What should I use to clean my DreamLine shower door?
To keep your custom DreamLine shower door looking its best, we recommend wiping away water using a glass squeegee or a soft cloth after every use; this helps prevent unsightly water spots. For regular cleaning, simply use a soft cloth along with a gentle soap, like liquid dish soap. Please refrain from using abrasive or harsh cleaners, as they can damage the door's finish.
What is the difference between a pivot and a hinged shower door?
A hinged shower door is attached directly to the wall or stationary glass and opens like an interior door in your house. For a sturdy installation of hinged doors attached directly to walls, studs behind the finished walls are necessary. On the other hand, a pivot shower door operates similarly to a refrigerator door. It is connected at the top and bottom to a pivot assembly, which in turn is affixed to a wall profile system on your finished wall. This setup doesn't necessitate studs behind the walls, making it a versatile choice for many bathroom designs.
What is a bypass shower door?
A bypass shower door consists of two sliding glass doors that move past each other, offering entry to the shower space from either the right or left side. This design provides flexibility in access while maximizing the use of space, especially in more compact bathroom areas.
How are your shower doors adjustable?
DreamLine custom shower doors are designed with flexibility in mind. Depending on the specific model, adjustments for width and out-of-plumb conditions can be made either within the wall profile system or through the U-Channels. This ensures a precise fit and seamless integration into various bathroom spaces.
How do I measure for a shower door?
Start by ensuring that your measurements are based on the finished wall dimensions, meaning after tile has been installed. Before you measure, inspect your walls and curbs to ensure they are plumb and level. If they aren't, make necessary adjustments so that all glass panels align to the same finished height. For the most accurate measurement, focus on the center line where the glass panels will be positioned. Finally, don't forget to take measurements from the top, middle, and bottom of your finished walls to account for any variances.
Will I have to alter the hardware at the jobsite?
DreamLine custom shower doors come with glass panels tailored to your specific dimensions and standard-sized hardware. This means that the hardware may need some adjustments on-site to ensure a perfect fit.
