Bathing in Beauty: The Art of Skirted Bathtubs

One popular type of freestanding bathtub is a skirted tub. This type of bathtub has one side featuring a skirt or apron — usually bowed or flat — that extends the length of the bathtub.

Skirted bathtubs are generally easier to install than other options, and they are available in a variety of styles, including whirlpool or garden, making them an ideal choice for those interested in hydrotherapy.

These kinds of tubs work well in many bathrooms because of the flexibility they offer. With their freestanding design, you have more options when deciding where you want to install it, which can help you use awkward spaces in the bathroom more easily.

Another important benefit of skirted tubs is that their skirts make cleaning easier. You don’t have to worry about dust and debris making it under the tub. The flanges collect moisture, as well. This is important for those who want to get a soaker tub but don’t want to have to be concerned about moisture accumulating where it shouldn’t.

With skirted bathtubs, you can enjoy the luxury of a soaking tub without worry.

Materials

You can find skirted tubs in cast iron, fiberglass, acrylic, or a combo of materials. The skirts are usually crafted out of tile or beadboard, helping to keep prices low while still providing beautiful and timeless elegance. Acrylic bathtubs tend to be the most affordable.

Soaking Depth

Skirted tubs often have a variety of soaking depths to choose from, depending on your preference and budget. You can find a skirted bath with a depth of 14’’ if you prefer a shallower option. If a deep soak is more your style, you can go all the way up to 21’’.

Tub Length

With an array of options, it’s easy to find a skirted bathtub in the exact size you want. They range anywhere from 58’’ to 72’’, allowing you to find the one that fits your bathroom’s space or your price point best. Bathing wells can also vary in size but are typically generous when it comes to freestanding tubs.

Installation Type

When you choose a skirted tub, you have many installation options available. Freestanding skirted bathtubs are among the most common options. Freestanding bathtubs are tubs that have all four of their sides exposed. They sit directly on the floor and apart from any wall. This is in contrast to alcove or drop-in options, which refer to bathtubs that you can drop into a structure.

Freestanding skirted bathtubs create a smooth transition from the tub to the floor, providing a more cohesive look. These tubs can feature an integral tile flange, which is molded into the tub while it’s crafted and is available as a 2-sided flange for a corner tub or a 3-sided flange for a rectangular tub.

Tub Drillings

Whether you decide to go with a freestanding skirted tub or an alcove skirted tub, both offer different tub drilling options like pre-drilled faucet holes for convenience or no tub drillings for a smooth, more streamlined look. Each style caters to different aesthetic preferences and installation requirements, allowing your tub to not only meet your functional needs but also complement your bathroom's design seamlessly.

Style

These bathtubs come in a variety of styles. You can choose a double-ended bathtub, which is one that has slopes at both ends, and features taps, overflow, and waste at its center or fitted to the wall.

You can also consider slipper tubs, which feature one raised side, offering both a classic design and comfortable one-person lounging.

Drain Location

The tub drain in a skirted tub can be placed at its center, rear center, or end. You can typically choose between a left drain or a right drain.

Finish

The finish of our skirted bathtub can be in either satin ebony or white. You have the option of choosing a high gloss finish, as well.

Drain Finish

Your drain finish is also up to you. For example, you can go with a chrome drain finish, which can easily match your faucet. This is a classic look that still has a modern feel to it, making it a good option for modern bathrooms as well as more traditional ones.

Shape

When you choose a skirted bathtub, you’ll find both oval and rectangular options. Either option is well suited for soaker tubs or jacuzzi-style tubs.

Feet Type

The type of feet the tub has depends greatly on the style you choose. With clawfoot tubs, for example, you have a variety of options, including those made of metal to resemble the traditional clawfoot tubs, as well as more modern choices.

Our freestanding and alcove skirted tubs do not come with feet.

Brand

The most affordable brand of skirted tubs is Randolph Morris, but you also have Maax and Cheviot options available. Each of these brands is high-quality and dependable.

Price

The price of the bathtub depends on many factors, including its length and depth, along with the materials it’s made of and its style. You will find that they generally range from about $2,000 to $8,000.

With their varied price points and luxurious, easy-to-clean design, skirted tubs can be ideal for any bathroom or budget.
