HOW TO INSTALL CLAWFOOT TUB FEET

Example product shown in video: Randolph Morris 57 Inch Classic Clawfoot Tub

Tools and materials you will need:

  • 4 claw feet (included)
  • 4 bolts (included)
  • 4 flat washers (included)
  • 4 lock washers (included)
  • 8 nuts (included)
  • Tapered rubber shims (included)
  • 11/16-inch wrench (not included)
  • Blanket or protective pad (not included)

After you have uncrated the tub, check the tub paint and porcelain for any imperfections or damage. Remember, these tubs are handmade, so slight imperfections may occur.

Remove and inspect the feet for any scratches or rust.

Lay a blanket on the floor to place the tub on when you remove it from the crate. If you have purchased a classic roll top tub, be sure to place some form of blocking, like a book, under the rim so you will be able to get your hands under the tub to flip it back over when finished.

Now, remove the tub from the crate and place it rim down on the blanket. Set out the feet so that the letter on the bottom of the foot corresponds to the letter that is located beside the lugs on the bottom of the tub.

Take a bolt and insert it into a lug so that the threads are pointing toward the ceiling. Take the foot and place it over the bolt and gently lower it so that the foot rests on both the tub and the tongue and lug. Please remember to gently place the foot over the bolt to prevent it from scratching the tub.

Next, place a flat washer over the bolt on top of the foot tongue. Place a lock washer over the flat washer. Place a nut over the lock washer and tighten it to within 1/8 inch of the lock washer. This will allow you enough space to adjust the foot as needed. If the foot lies flush on both sides of the tub and between the foot tongue and lug, you can continue to tighten the nut.

Now, if the foot does not lie flush, loosen the nut so that it rests approximately 1/2 inch away from the washer. Take one of the provided shims and place it between the foot's tongue and tub's lug. The shims are tapered, so be sure to insert the shims so that the largest end of the shim rests in the largest space between the tongue and lug. Repeat this process until you have reached the desired outcome.

Once the foot lies flush on both sides of the tub between the tongue and lug, tighten the nut. Do not over tighten the nut. Over tightening will cause the bolts to strip and become unusable.

Once the nut is tightened, gently move the foot to make sure there is no movement in the foot.

Flip the tub right side up and make sure that it rests stationary on the floor. Remember, when flipping a tub; be sure not to put all the tub's weight on only one tub foot.

If the tub does not remain stationary, establish which corner is causing the unevenness. Flip the tub back over and shim the appropriate corner.

Once your tub is stationary on the ground, you are ready to enjoy your new tub from Vintage Tub & Bath. Please call 8778681369 ext. 2 to speak with a customer service representative for additional information.
