Decorating a Small Bathroom
Small bathrooms need not lack charm. In fact, there are many reasons why you may want to decorate your small bathroom and make it more attractive. You probably spend a significant amount of time in your bathroom. For this reason alone, you want your bathroom to be a pleasant environment.
So how can we help you decorate your small bathroom? We can start by eliminating things that might be taking up too much floor space, such as the vanity under the sink. Instead, use a hanging corner shelf to maximize the storage space in your bathroom.
Now let's talk color. In general, soft pastel colors on the floors and walls will make the room look larger. You can use contrasting bright colors for towels and accessories, and an attractive border on the walls as an accent. A large mirror over the sink will reflect the light and color patterns of the room, which will in turn make the bathroom look larger.
Lighting can also have a profound effect on your perception of room size. If you have no bathroom window, choose incandescent lighting as opposed to fluorescent. If you have enough height in the room, you can put in a suspended ceiling and install over-all soft diffused lighting, or use several well-positioned recessed lights. Although expensive, a skylight is another option. Finally, resist the temptation to add too many decorations or knick-knacks as they tend to make the room look cluttered.
