  • Sheet Molding Compound (SMC)

Consists of four dry ingredients - filler, fire retardant, thickener, and internal old release - which are mixed together. The dry items are then mixed with liquid resin and a catalyst, which form a thick paste. The paste is then spread evenly over a sheet of polyethylene and sprinkled evenly with one-inch chopped glass fibers, which in turn is covered by another sheet of polyethylene. The sheet is then kneaded with heavy steel rollers until all fiberglass is covered with paste. The kneaded sheets are then layered and left to mature in bins for three days. The polyethylene sheets are then removed and the SMC is no longer a paste but something comparable to 1/4" wet leather. It is at this point that the sheet goes into a mold under extreme heat and pressure and a desired mold is achieved.

Double Bowl Utility Sink A well built product with generous sized bowls. Totally satisfied with the product. June 2, 2012
Great double utililty sink Just what we were looking for and fitted perfectly into our the cabinet where we had our old cast iron sink. Great buy. November 17, 2011
laundry tub Excellent in every respect. Easy to order, fast delivery, easy to install and, best of all, easy to use May 16, 2010
High quality body, low quality legs If you are looking to spice up your utility room, this sink really does the trick. It is sleek looking, roomy, and the weight and feel of the basin is substantative. The legs, however, are thin and flimsy. I am not certain that if both sinks were filled to capacity with water, that the legs would hold the weight. As a precautionary measure, we bolted the sink to the wall. For over $200, FIAT should provide a better support system for this sink-- the legs are not reliable. Also, I recommend installing a faucet with a sprayer. Because of the size of the sink, a regular stationary faucet would not work well for rinsing out the sides and bottom of the tubs. January 5, 2010
Double Utility Sink The tub itself is very good, but the enamelled coated legs were a disappointment. The legs were very thin, just painted and extremely wobblely. I had to rig a support frame made of 2x4s. I would have rather had an undivided tub/sink, but that was never qued up when viewing. December 1, 2009
SKP Overall The sink was exactly what I had expected which was good. The only problem I had with it was the legs. They struck me as being on the flimsy side but everything went together well and shortly we will be using same. Thanks for offering this product at a fairly decent price. I think if i were to recommend this product to others I would recommend the wall mount version. October 2, 2007
