Bathroom Sink Faucet - 4-inch Centerset with Pop-Up Drain - Cheviot
Retro look, nice quality, still not the real thing
We ordered this faucet in chrome to accompany a vintage wall-mount sink for our 1953 bathroom, which we are restoring to period. We were hoping for something that would come as close as possible to the old 1950s American Standard 4-inch centerset faucets, and this faucet is fairly similar. (Sign of the Crab used to make an exact reproduction, but it has been discontinued.)
This faucet appeared to be well made. Most of the parts are metal. However, it is much less heavy/substantial than the old 1950s faucets, and the proportions of this faucet are (to our eye) not as appealing as the vintage version. In the end, we returned this faucet and opted for a rebuilt, rechromed vintage faucet. It was about twice as expensive, but since we'll be living with it every day, we decided we wanted the genuine article and saved our pennies to get what we really wanted.
If you want a retro look and are not terribly concerned about authenticity, this faucet will probably suit you just fine. But if you would really rather have the real thing, I recommend you save up the extra cash and get a restored vintage faucet.
Incidentally, VTB's customer service was excellent. They helped us through the return process with no difficulties.
