Tub Drain Buying Guide
Since not all drains fit all tubs, VTB lists both Faucet & Hardware recommendations at the bottom of every tub's detail page. VTB has tested the drains recommended for each particular clawfoot tub. If you have any questions or are purchasing a tub drain for your new or antique tub, you can call us toll free at 877-868-1369 to discuss with a customer service representative.
Chain & Stopper and Lift & Turn
The two most popular styles of claw foot tub drains are the:
rubber stopper with chain
or
lift and turn
. Although the rubber stopper with chain drain is the traditional favorite, the lift and turn drain is also historically accurate.
Cable Operated Drain
Cable operated drains
have a cable that is inserted through the overflow tube and the drain tube. These drains have a trip lever mechanism or a button to pull near the overflow in order to release or seal the water.
Please note:
these drains are tub specific and information can be found on that drain's detail page.
Pop Up Drain
The
pop up drain
has a trip lever mechanism that “pops” the drain stopper up or down. This is controlled by a brass rod that travels down the overflow tube and activates a plunger inside the shoe of the drain.
Please note:
these drains are tub specific and information can be found on that drain's detail page.
Tower Drain
Tower drains
are perfect for clawfoot tubs! Tower drains have a pop-top drain release. You lift the top to release water and push it down to seal the water at the shoe of the drain.
